Students pursuing Counseling Psychology from the Department of Social Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS) at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), today participated in two impactful engagements aimed at strengthening their practical skills and deepening their understanding of inclusive care.

Accompanied by the Dean of SoHSS, Dr. Madiha Salim, and Mr. George Kikonde, the students began the day with an educational tour to a Cerebral Palsy Foundation, where they gained firsthand exposure to working with individuals living with physical and developmental disabilities.

They explored various therapeutic and rehabilitation programs, interacted with caregivers and professionals, and developed a deeper appreciation of the challenges faced by individuals with special needs and the support systems available.

The students later went for a community service visit to Ziwani School for the Deaf. The outreach focused on fostering social responsibility, empathy, and meaningful interaction with diverse communities.

During the visit, the students donated foodstuffs and actively took part in improving the school environment through cleaning activities, compound maintenance, and assisting in meal preparation. Their involvement demonstrated teamwork, compassion, and a strong commitment to service.

Both engagements provided valuable opportunities for the students to apply their counseling knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing their skills in communication, inclusivity, and community support.

The experiences also reinforced the importance of empathy, patience, and multidisciplinary collaboration in professional practice.

Through these initiatives, TUM continues to strengthen its connection with the community while equipping students with the practical competencies necessary for impactful and compassionate service.
