On the 19th March 2026, The Civil Engineering Club at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), held a successful meeting with the Regional Director, Engineer Simon Omuono, and team from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) – Coast Region at their offices in Shimanzi. The students were accompanied by Dr. Esther Njoki, the Chair of the Civil Engineering Department and Club Patron.

The engagement resulted in the establishment of a partnership aimed at enhancing practical learning and professional development for students. Discussions also included the possibility of developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize and strengthen collaboration between the two parties. This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between academic training and industry practice by providing direct exposure to real-world engineering environments.

Through this partnership, members of the Civil Engineering Club will benefit from access to internships and industrial attachments within KeNHA projects, organized site visits to infrastructure works, and participation in technical workshops and seminars. In addition, the collaboration will support mentorship programs, research and innovation initiatives, as well as opportunities for professional networking.

To ensure effective implementation, both parties agreed on the appointment of focal persons to coordinate activities and communication. The Club President, Fidelis Kioko, will serve as the focal person on behalf of the Civil Engineering Club, working closely with KeNHA representatives to facilitate smooth coordination and execution of the partnership programs.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in the university’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates equipped with practical skills, innovation capacity, and professional insight in civil engineering.
