A team of two researchers and eight artists affiliated with the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) is currently in Szczecin, Poland to participate in the Third Edition of the Polish-Kenya DUOS Festival and Arts Exhibitions.

The Festival is organized by the Academy of Arts and the National Museum in Szczecin.

DOUS festival is a practical application component of the Transcultural Perspectives in Art and Art Education (TPAAE) research project, funded by the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme of the EU under grant agreement No. 872718.

The exhibitions officially opened on June 29, 2023, at the National Museum in Szczecin and will remain accessible for public viewing until September 24, 2023.

Kenyan Artists participating in the exhibitions include: street graffiti artist, Joseph Allan Green with his Polish duo Raba Żarski; Yonah Mudibo specializing in installation and working closely with Natalia Karczewska from Poland; Philip Tangara (TUM Student) and his duo Zorka Wollny working on performance; Caroline Ngorobi and her duo Justyna Celeda who presented a community theatre.

Others include Mike Okoth and Anna Maria Karczmarska specializing in scenography; Jonathan Mbinga and Mikołaj Małek who together worked on scenography and photography; Photographer Tommie Ominde and his Polish duo Igor Omulecki, while Ruby Wanjiru with her Polish Duo Magdalena Szymków worked on film.

In addition, to the DOUS festival, the delegation from TUM Led by Dr. Wanyenda Chilimo (The University Librarian) and Dr. Michael Saulo (Registrar of Partnerships Research & Innovation) are participating in a range of individual research projects and collective activities related to art and culture.

The team toured galleries and art spaces within Szczecin and participated in the openings of exhibitions and students’ art projects at TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art and the Academy of Arts in Szczecin.

TUM researchers are also visiting universities in Szczecin and Poznan cities in Poland for the purposes of establishing further partnerships and collaborations. The delegation is set to return to Kenya on 11th July 2023.
