The Human Resource Office of TUM organized a two-day sensitization training on business process re-engineering and digitization on the 22nd and 23rd of February, 2024. The training was facilitated by the Director of ICT, Mr Andrew Opiyo, from the Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy. During the training, Mr. Opiyo discussed the importance of digitalization in an organization. The objective of the sensitization was to develop and upgrade the necessary IT infrastructure to support digital services such as reliable networks, data centres, cloud computing platforms, and data protection procedures. The committee members were also informed on ways to transform business processes, create new value for customers, and generate revenue using digital technologies.

The training was attended by the VC, Professor Laila Abubakar, the DVC AFP, Prof Joseph Rosowo, The Registrar AP, Dr. Shivani Patel, and other committee members.

To stress the importance of such training, Prof Laila stated that re-engineering is the mother of all the processes. Thus, she urged the members to gather all the necessary information, especially on the emerging issue of fee payment through the E-Citizen portal.

TUM ICT Manager, Mr Mohammed Swaleh, reported the implemented security measures for data protection for students to access the TUM portals. Additionally, special measures have been formulated to help students with disabilities to access online services. Prof Joseph Rasowo, who is also the Digitalization Committee chairperson, shared a list of services to be re-engineered such as the deferment process, and admission processes for self-sponsored students, and government-sponsored students.
Mrs. Betty Soita from the Public Service gave an overview of business process re-engineering and delved into the selection of services and processes to be re-engineered and also the mapping of the current processes. Discussions on the loopholes in the current processes and how to effectively upgrade took place.

The vice-chancellor appreciated Mr. Opiyo and Mrs. Betty for creating time to meet the members. She emphasized the importance of re-engineering and embracing the digitization process and urged the members to empathize with the students, who make up the university's biggest clientele, and figure out ways to assist them efficiently and effectively.

This training was a crucial step in the Re-engineering and digitization of the processes as the committee put in measures to accelerate the adoption of ICT solutions for ease of access and fast, cost-effective, convenient and efficient service delivery.
