The Technical University of Mombasa, in partnership with SwahiliPot Hub and other collaborators, hosted an Info and Technical Assistance workshop on entrepreneurship to support student innovators and entrepreneurs. The aim of the seminar was to enhance the entrepreneurship ecosystem by educating aspiring entrepreneurs on essential business aspects such as market dynamics planning and financial management. Through this session, participants developed their skills, fostered leadership and problem-solving abilities, and networked with experts and investors. The event also focused on facilitating collaboration for business growth and providing access to funding.

One of the main objectives of the seminar was to create awareness about the Tony Elumelu Foundation entrepreneurship program. This program provides world-class business training and seed capital funding of USD 5000 per accepted business. It also offers hands-on support and guidance to enable TUM students and graduates to successfully submit their applications, establish and strengthen relationships with fund and program managers, and increase community engagement within the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The seminar was moderated by Arafat Mukasa from the Swahilipot Hub and TUM alumni. It concluded with a panel discussion that featured Dr Kevin Tole, Deputy Director, Institute of Computing and Informatics, the Technical University of Mombasa representing academia; Paul Akwabi, Founder & Executive Director, Tech Kidz Africa representing an entrepreneur and TUM alumni; Mercy Thomas Ndunguru, a Business Analyst with Techbridge Invest Accelerator, representing an entrepreneurship support organization; and Dan Osira, Branch Manager, UBA Kenya Bank Ltd, representing the private sector and Tony Elumelu Foundation. 

The panelists discussed in detail the topic of fostering student entrepreneurship through access to business training, mentorships, and catalytic funding. The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for students and graduates to learn and grow in their entrepreneurial endeavours, training, mentorships, and catalytic funding.
