TUM SHINES IN THE NAIROBI INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR, 2018

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) students stole the show during the Nairobi international trade fair 2018. An invention dubbed integrated solid waste management system by William Masha from the Department of Electrical and Electronics made TUM to emerge victorious in the category of Best stand in youth activities, empowerment and capacity building. TUM clinched the third position in that group.

Masha’s invention is a digital dust bin which sends signals to a central point once it’s full of garbage for quick collection to avoid over spilling of the waste. In an exclusive interview with Corporate Communications office, Masha revealed that the menace of garbage in Mombasa city which is a tourist hub prompted him to look for a permanent solution.

Another project that caught the attention of the judges that visited the stand of TUM was the Smart Medinet by Antony M. Gachunia from Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The theme of this year’s show was “Promoting Innovations and Technology in Agriculture and Trade. The event took place from 1st to 7th October, 2018 at Jamhuri grounds in Nairobi.
