The most vibrant and award-winning TUM Directorate of Career Services in the stewardship of its Director - Dr. Madiha Salim, had on 25th January 2023 hosted a Commonwealth scholarship sensitization forum for the university students in the region. The event attracted students from Pwani university, Taita-Taveta University and the host- Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). This function intended to create awareness amongst the students and other academicians on how to successfully apply for the Commonwealth scholarship.

Speaking during the event, the president of the Commonwealth Scholarship Association in Kenya, Dr. Erick Omolo said that Kenya’s lags behind in terms of the scholarship’s uptake compared to other East African countries like Uganda and Rwanda and that necessitated the move to increase awareness by providing such-like platforms. “Majority ignore applying for such opportunities thinking that one must have a ‘god father’ to win a scholarship. I assure you this isn’t the case, you only need to follow the right procedure during the application process to increase your chances of being selected for one.

His Counterpart Ms. Mary – Common Wealth Project manager to Kenya & Tanzania, echoed his sentiments and further, shared some insights on the scholarship. “We are here to instill skills that will enable you to successfully apply for the scholarships. Actually, the Ministry of Education is responsible for receiving applications and the selection process. Please note that the criteria used is always given by the hosting department.
