On the 30th and 31st of March, the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-Ke) and the County Government of Kilifi organized the Kenya Beach Games, where 1600 athletes from different parts of Kenya gathered to participate in 14 sports. Among them was the Technical University of Mombasa's Baseball 5 team, known as the 'Queentans', who also took part in the games at Buntwaani Beach, Malindi.

Dr Paul Tergat, the President of NOC-Ke, along with 2nd Vice President Shadrack Maluki, Treasurer Eliud Kariuki and other executive members, welcomed the athletes who converged to showcase their skills, passion, and camaraderie in the dynamic and exciting sports event. Some of the games included Rowing and Canoeing, Beach volleyball, Beach Hockey, Aquathlon, 3x3 Basketball, Beach cycling, Beach Football, and Baseball5, among others.

The TUM Baseball 5 team was a combination of 'Coastal Queens' and 'Titans'; the two softball teams at the university. The team was led by their coach and paramedic, Mr Mkono Mukono and accompanied by Coach Lewis Tekei, the Vice Chairman of the Softball Federation of Kenya.

Baseball 5, a relatively new branch of Softball, kicked off early on Saturday morning. Unlike Softball, Baseball 5 does not require equipment and takes place on a relatively smaller field of about 13 square meters. The TUM team won against Kenyatta University in one round but unfortunately could not proceed to the next stage. Another TUM alumni group, 'Inferno', which works closely with the Queentans, also participated in the event and reached the quarter-finals. Despite playing against national champions with no experience, the students showed their resilience and strength.

For the TUM team, this was a great opportunity to showcase their skills, test their flexibility in playing a new game, and most importantly, learn from their highly qualified opponents. The students went home with a more enlightened mindset on what to expect and how to best prepare for future games.
