Over 400 youths on Friday were awarded certificates after having successfully completed Ajira digital training at the Technical University of Mombasa.

In a colorful closing ceremony, the DVC ARE Prof. Peter Gichangi representing the VC advised the youth to make good use of the many opportunities available online to change their lives and the community.

Prof. Gichangi while outlining Tum’s agenda as the center of manpower training, challenged the youth to use the acquired knowledge and skills not only for employment but also for entrepreneurship purposes. He asked them to share the knowledge and skills with others.

He further expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of ICT for having chosen Tum as one of the Centers for Ajira Digital Training.

On his part, the Mombasa County Chief Officer for ICT Mr. Anwar proposed of a partnership between Tum and the County’s Department of ICT to come up with one major ICT hub that will support research and innovation. He stressed on the need to formulate good policies that will promote and Protect innovations. He further thanked the Technical University of Mombasa for hosting the digital training.

Mr. Charles Lomonyang, representing the ministry of ICT, challenged the trainees to take the training seriously so as to help in solving the problems in society.

Other speakers were Dr. Mvurya Mgala, ICI Director TUM, Mr. Jeremiah Gatonga, ICT Authority of Kenya.

Ajira Digital is a government of Kenya programme launched by the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) that is geared towards enhancing youth employment in Kenya through online jobs.
