Technical University of Mombasa council chair Dr Kevit Desai has intensified his efforts to have the varsity deep into the industry to achieve its set goals.
Desai, who is the Linking Industry With Academia boss, once again held consultative talks with key industrial players on Thursday including Mabati Rolling Mills and Umoja Rubber Products Ltd.
Also present at the meet were Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Laila Abubakar and respective deans MRM Employee Relations Manager Elizabeth Kitao, URP General Manager Avanish Misra and French Embassy’s Coopertaion and Cultural affairs head Jean-Pierre Tutin.
“We need to fully implement the various MoUs we earlier signed to the benefit of both of us. Linkages in research, skills and training are the best drivers of achievement,” said Desai.
Kitao and Misra said their firms have been ready to absorb students for attachment and employment should they exhibit impressive performance.
“We have graduate training programmes, industrial visit all which can benefit the students even as we gain from the intensive training you impart on them here in campus,” said Kitao.
Laila rooted for development of a short course in Rubber Technology after Misra said such is lacking in Africa yet it could be beneficial to his rubber shoe making company.
