After a weekend of action at the Technical University of Mombasa TUM sports centre, the institution has been crowned as the new 2016 champions of the national inter-Colleges sports competition after topping in the overall results of all disciplines held at the varsity compound.
TUM were outstanding in Volleyball men and Women, Handball both men and women, Basket Ball Women, Bandminton and Football both men and Women to lift the overall title in an event that was occasioned by the University deputy vice chancellor professor Awadh A. Binhazim.
TUM took the lead in Men’s football match after thrashing arch rivals Umma University in a very impressing way that saw the match decided on penalties after both teams went to a 1-1 draw in the full time score before TUM won 6-4 on penalties.
In another explosive match Moi university grabbed the trophy of Men Basketball after edging TUM who did not impress in their home turf to concede a 39-30 points in a contest that was attended by hundreds of spectators and officiated by Kenya Basket Ball Federation KBF officials.
TUM entered the court high spirited hoping for the Basketball trophy after beating Mbaraki Emirates 41-30 in the semi finals but lucky was not on their side in the finals where they received a humiliating defeat from Moi University in a very tough encounter.
In Hockey women junior matches St.Johns high school were crowned after beating Waa Girls who took second position while individual category Bandminton men went to Technical university of Mombasa TUM while in Women went Waa girls.
The Annual event according to Binhazim was made to bring together youth in sports and nature talents for grab by national teams in the country.
“We have seen a lot of talents Emerging from our youth and we would not sit and focus on academics alone, we want also to inclusively involve the youth in sports to nature their talents for their better tomorrow,” Binhazim said.
