TUM Ladies Mark World International Women’s Day (IWD) in Style
Technical University of Mombasa female staff joined other women throughout the globe to mark the World Women’s Day in a unique way ever, through poems speeches songs, cake cutting and motivating each other to aim higher #beboldforchange.
The Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Laila U. Abubakar, who was not able to attend the auspicious occasion being away on official duty, sent a beautiful message to the staff, welcoming the gesture and reaffirming her total support towards the initiative.
It was an event organized to bring all the female staff in TUM to come together in one voice. Standing in sisterhood with the rest of the world on a special day that women from time immemorial have fought to get the space they now enjoy.
Senior Human Resource Officer Ms. Joan Cherotich and Ms. Agnes Tsuma from Finance Department supported by Tum management through the Registrar (AP) invited all the female staff to gather in the Assembly Hall for the grand celebration.
All roads led to the hall from mid-day where the smartly dressed ladies of TUM trooped and converged ready to celebrate the day in pomp and style. The ladies from different cadres of employment mixed in song, dance, joy, laughter as they shared in all matters of womanhood.
Speaker after speaker recounted the ‘women liberation’ journey the world over appreciating our own women at the realm of leadership.
The University Counsellor Ms. Madiha Salim with her beautiful speech encouraged the women to break the glass ceiling with their ability to utilize God given multi- tasking skills.
The Deputy Human Resource Manager Dr. Jane Weru emphasized on the woman being recognized for their capabilities not because they are women.
Our very own “golden girl” the Senior Housekeeper Mrs. Mary Wadenya reminded the ladies the young upcoming mothers about personal grooming and etiquette, and women being the backbone of their families.
Ms. Mariana Wangui Accommodation Department as appreciated the celebration since there was no discrimination against any woman in the TUM fraternity.
Ms. Jaytee Kivihya from Media and graphic design department was the show stopper of the day as she brought the house down with ululation, song, poem and dance. She encouraged the staff to be proud of who they are as women and be each other’s keeper in sisterhood.
In the open forum women came and encouraged each other as they share their experiences during the cake cutting session which was led by Ms. Evelyne Idza Accommodation Department and Ms. Mariam Khamis from the Library Department.
The event came to an end with a photo session in TUM serene environment.
Appreciation was given to photojournalist Mr. Victor Kambi and Mr. Frankline Kalama for a commendable job.
