TUM Acquires ISO 9001:2008 Certification

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) has finally acquired ISO 9001:2008 certification. The TUM staff and students are excited to study and work in an institution that has meet international standards.
The auditing and certification process was undertaken by SGS, the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and Certification Company. The audit was conducted in March 2015 and the university received the certificate effective 1st May 2015.
The ISO 9001:2008 certification process started way back in the year 2010 when sensitization was done at the then Mombasa Polytechnic University College (now TUM). The momentum was re-engineered in the year 2012 and 2013 with the sensitization of the entire university staff, training of internal auditors, documentation, internal audits, management reviews, the stage one (1) audits and stage two (2) audits.
The certification of the university came at a time when the university has repositioned itself as one of the leading institution of higher learning in Kenya through the establishment of national and international collaborations with renowned institutions. With the scope focusing on design, development and delivery of teaching, learning, research and community service covering all academic departments as well as support services, it is no doubt TUM’s drive towards internationalization as well as quality products and services will prevail.
With the award of the Charter in the year 2013 that made TUM a fully fledged university, the university has developed a number of policies and guidelines geared towards improved service delivery as per the university mandate. The ISO 9001:2008 is no doubt another milestone that cements the university’s achievements as a global university of excellence in training, research and innovation.
